Evolution of the method
The method called facilitated communication is developed in the late '80s by Rosemary Crossley in Australia.
The Crossley has long sought to develop methodologies (see Augmentative Communication) that could extend the communication possibilities for patients suffering from many of its old neuromotor disorders.
Working with her patients realize that, if subjected to training, these people could respond to some requests (for example using the gesture indicative) correctly and above expectations, given the development profile that shows a marked mental retardation. This execution was facilitated by the operator or holding opposing the spontaneous movement of the person running with arms.
This experience raises some questions: the person understands more than he can leave the viewer to understand because it has a defect in the execution of the motor that does not concern effectual organs, but the programming of the act itself? Because the person is facilitated if the execution is "held"? How much and how these people have developed their own learning? The facilitator working or communicating in the person must take care to enable synergy between the various elements needed to develop an action that comes to fruition:
